This German-style print was painted by artist Ludwig Knaus while he was a professor at the Prussian Royal Academy in Berlin. The original is presently held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This scene portrays the serenity of the Blessed Mother and the infant Jesus, and the wonderment of Joseph as he ponders what responsibility he has been given. The visiting angels are both excited yet reverent, not wanting to disturb the infant child, but trying to get close to adore their Lord.
