Deacon Items

In Catholic, Anglican and Eastern Orthodox churches, the diaconate is one of the major orders along with bishops and priests. The role of the deacon is to assist the priest in their pastoral or administrative duties. They typically report directly to a bishop and have a distinctive role in the church, with duties including serving the bishop, the proclamation of the Gospel and assisting the celebrant at the altar. Some deacons are also granted permission to preach. Deacons are typically ordained to service rather than to priesthood.
