The St. Remy Monstrance
The term monstrance is derived from the Latin word monstare, which means "to show". A monstrance is typically a free-standing display that is meant to draw attention to a host or significant relic pertaining to a saint or other religious figure. Often used as a reliquary, the monstrance is typically placed in a public space as a pious display for church goers.
The beautiful St. Remy Monstrance by Artistic Silver is available from Matthew F. Sheehan. It is made of 925 sterling silver or brass with a 24k gold plate finish. The piece is heavily embellished and included 40 genuine stones of various types including amethysts, lapis lazuli, green venturines and garnets. The cross, node and base have a cloisonné fire enamel finish to add even more color to the design. The monstrance measures 24" high by 12 1/2" head diameter.
